Book Collaborations

Dori began working on financial books in 2006, but accelerated her pace as the global financial crisis began. Since September 2007, she has worked on five books, including two New York Times bestsellers.

She recently co-authored Asset Allocation For Dummies® with financial expert Jerry A. Miccolis (John Wiley & Sons, May 2009) and collaborated with Addison Wiggin (I.O.U.S.A.: One Nation, Under Debt, In Stress, John Wiley & Sons, April 2008) and New York Times bestselling author Martin D. Weiss (The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide, John Wiley & Sons, April 2009)

Coming next: The third edition of the classic bestseller, Making the Most of Your Money NOW by Jane Bryant Quinn (Simon & Schuster, January, 2010), which follows the publication of Smart and Simple Financial Strategies for Busy People (Simon & Schuster, 2006). Dori, who reported from 1998 to 2001 for Quinn’s twice-weekly, nationally syndicated Washington Post and Good Housekeeping columns and also contributed to her Newsweek column, provided research and original reporting for both books.

Dori's road to book collaborations began on Capitol Hill. She wrote a weekly newspaper column for a U.S. Senator, by working closely with his legislative staff. She used the same strategic skills to lead a pro bono staff of volunteers in producing an award-winning history book of photographs and oral histories about the lives of Italian immigrants (New Neighbors, Old Friends: First Place, Book Excellence, League of Historical Society of New Jersey, 1982).

As Editorial Director at Covenant House, the Times Square shelter for runaways and homeless youth, she went beyond her role of establishing a publications department to collaborate on four books with the agency’s founder and senior staff. The first, Covenant House, Lifeline to the Street, by Bruce Ritter (Doubleday 1989), made fundraising history when it was republished a year later as a direct mail appeal. Sometimes God Has a Kid’s Face generated over $10 million in contributions and increased the agency’s donor base by 25 percent.

Earlier in her career, Dori, who was awarded a fellowship to study theology, also contributed to several books on religion and faith that reach across the political and sexual divide. For more information, see her list of personal finance and investing books in the Library.
